Feed yourself well with fibres & fermented foods (gut health)

A fun and more encompassing interactive gut health class. You first learn about the benefits of eating different kinds of vegetables & other plants, then join us in making a couple of very simple dishes – the way of serving up food Emily feels most passionate about.

Emily then helps you understand more about what the gut microbiota is and what our amazing bacteria can do. She goes on to show you how to easily prepare some fermented foods from scratch, giving you the knowledge to  take away, along with your filled up jars.

Inside our bodies there is a whole universe of forty trillion bacteria busy at work. They transform the food we eat and are now understood to have a huge impact on our health in several ways. Fermented foods play a crucial role in feeding our gut microbiota so its great to have the knowledge to nurture and manipulate this through the food we eat.

Demonstration dishes:

Steamed asparagus or green beans with home-made vinaigrette dressing (v) Ⓥ
Roasted courgettes, aubergines, fennel, pepper, red onion and baby tomatoes with home-
made harissa dressing (v) Ⓥ

We then make as a group:

Water kefir / variations (v) Ⓥ
Simple sauerkraut (clip jar & pickling stone provided) (v) Ⓥ
Spicy pickled radishes or cucumbers (v) Ⓥ
Fermented Tomatoes (demonstration &/or tasting only) (v) Ⓥ

Everyone is welcome!

If you are interested in gut health we run three different classes here at Get Cooking:

  • a breakfast taster session
  • Feed Yourself Well with Fermented Foods where you make fermented /probiotic foods & beverages
  • This Feed Yourself Well with Fibres & Fermented foods which also includes information about prebiotics fibres and cooking demonstrations

About Emily

Emily Carey has been teaching people to cook classic and original dishes for over 10 years, driven by her passion to make home cooking more widely accessible.

Her childhood, in a home where good food, especially Mediterranean food was enjoyed, started her off on a journey of discovery and exploration. She developed an eye for good recipes and learning what foods work well together, adding to this a flair for bringing food and people together, and that became the basis for Get Cooking.

With a simple start in 2010, and the opening of an exciting and unique venue in Farsley in 2016, she has continually incorporated fresh ideas into the business including her recent passion for gut health.
