Mexican Vegan Cooking

Here, we go beyond tacos to explore some lesser known Mexican staples. You will learn how to create authentic, plant-based dishes which celebrate the variety and intense flavours of Mexican cuisine.

We begin with a hands-on demonstration where you learn how to make corn tortillas from their raw ingredients whilst you enjoy a little aperitif – sangrita. You will be able to taste and compare them with a roast tomato salsa. You will go on to make your own Mole de Calabaza (moh-lay day cal-a-bath-a). In Mexican cuisine a mole is a sauce, in this case of tomato, onion, ancho chillies, pumpkin seeds, basil and coriander. The Calabaza is a roast pumpkin. We will sample the results on completion, and you will have enough to take home to enjoy later.

Everyone is welcome!

About Emily

Emily Carey has been teaching people to cook classic and original dishes for over 10 years, driven by her passion to make home cooking more widely accessible.

Her childhood, in a home where good food, especially Mediterranean food was enjoyed, started her off on a journey of discovery and exploration. She developed an eye for good recipes and learning what foods work well together, adding to this a flair for bringing food and people together, and that became the basis for Get Cooking.

With a simple start in 2010, and the opening of an exciting and unique venue in Farsley in 2016, she has continually incorporated fresh ideas into the business including her recent passion for gut health.

  • You will be welcomed to the Get Cooking on arrival where you have access to tea and coffee making facilities and you can grab an apron. This is followed with a brief introduction to the course structure and kitchen before getting stuck in.
  • All of the ingredients are provided and you will have your own worktop space, kitchen equipment and utensils to work with in our home-from home spacious kitchen. You will have a minimum of two induction rings and access to an oven / sinks.
  • As a general rule, you will follow Emily as she demonstrates each stage of the dish or watch or join in a demonstration. Emily will cover key skills, quick tips, information about the ingredients and origins of the dish.
  • The dishes you prepare at this class are designed so that you can taste some and take some food away at the end of the class along with the Get Cooking recipe. Don’t forget to bring large sealable container/s!
