This is a full-day immersive and hands-on experience we are now offering at Esholt Village Hall, in the Aire Valley (near Guiseley, Leeds), where you will learn how to practice the craft of making fermented foods, whilst also becoming more knowledgeable about gut-friendly nutrition and gut health mindful living.
These days are perfect for anyone interested in learning about sourdough basics, fermented foods and connecting with people & nature. We are excited to support and inspire you on your gut health journey, even if you are a complete fermentation novice!
On the day:
- Introduction to sourdough starter & flatbread making
- Red cabbage, apple & cranberry Sauerkraut
- A light lunch of Borsch with Sauerkraut
- Optional 30-minute nature walk
- Preserved lemon making
You will receive your own sourdough starter and we will teach you how to feed & nurture it whilst learning about the sourdough process. We will then make sourdough flatbreads that you can stuff and bake at the end of the day.
You will also learn the art of the dry salting fermentation process by making your own Sauerkraut.
A light lunch of Borsch will give you the opportunity to sample the Sauerkraut – all part of the learning experience.
Lunch is followed by an optional 30-minute nature walk through the tranquil Memorial Hall Gardens, in the charming village of Esholt (the former filming location of Emmerdale). Learn why walking with trees is more than just a peaceful escape… we will talk about why connecting ourself more to nature is also good for our microbiome thus complimenting a gut health lifestyle.
We will finish by making preserved lemons for you to take away with you.
